FETTELL AND PAXTON EARN WINS IN FINAL RACE

The final race of the Gatorade Queensland Tri Series proved once again a happy hunting ground for Cotton Tree’s Rachael Paxton, notching both wins in the series on this course while Clayton Fettell made a winning return to racing after a lengthy layoff, leading from start to finish in the 400m swim, 15km cycle and 4km run.

Despite a ‘poor’ swim leg which she is working on under coach Toby Coote up on the Sunshine Coast Paxton gave Olympian Maxine Seear a 49 second lead out of the water but at the end of the cycle leg had amassed a 90 second lead then going on to record the fastest run split. 14 year old Brittany Forster from Burleigh Waters put in a stunning performance to finish third.

Alstonville’s Clayton Fettell was untroubled today leading from the gun and beating off one of Germany’s best triathlete’s Michael Raelert who competed in the Mooloolaba ITU World Cup and member of Australia’s Youth Olympics team Ryan Fisher rounding out the podium.

A capacity field of 1700 triathletes turned out to take part this morning, confirming Ray Bay as Brisbane’s most popular venue.

The 2008/09 Gatorade Queensland Tri Series has been a great breeding ground for our talented juniors, a fantastic opportunity for first time triathlete’s, weekend warriors and eager kids.

We would like to thank everyone who took part in the series; we hope you enjoyed the racing, camaraderie and triathlon experience.

See you all in October for Race 1 of the 2009/10 series!
