Hey Guys,
Lifetime Fitness Triathlon Minneapolis- 6th
This is no doubt my best performance of my career. Lining up against 15 of the best invited athletes from around the world i was aware of the challenge ahead of me. From the 15 starters at least 10 had either been National Champion,World Champion or an Olympian.
I had a great start and pushed the pace early in the swim to open a small gap with Andy Potts. I jumped in behind Andy as he was setting a good fast tempo which split the field apart, I exited the water first and made charge for the bike.
Out onto the bike on my new Kestrel Airfoil i was feeling strong and Andy and I still had a handy lead until Matt Reed,Paul Matthews and Greg Bennett bridged the gap to form a group of 5. The 5 of us worked hard until about 30kms when Bennett and Matty Reed bombed of the front leaving our group in tatters.
Into T2 Bennett and Reed had a small gap to Andy and a further 10seconds to Barney(Paul Matthews)and myself. i had a great run and held Barney within sight the entire run but couldn't pull him back in.Into the last km Ironman World Champion Craig Alexander ran me down and passed me.
Thanks for all the support, The form is good.
Next stop Vineman 70.3 this weekend.
Cheers,
Clayton
